Preparing Our Keiki for First Holy Communion
In First Holy Communion the children will prepare to meet the Lord Jesus in this very special sacrament. The ritual of First Holy Communion celebrates the child’s second step toward full initiation into the Church. The Eucharist is the greatest gift that Jesus gave to us – the gift of himself. It is a gift that takes a whole lifetime to open; a gift that requires a response from us. That is why it is so special and why we must take such care that our children are well-prepared.
At Sacred Hearts our keiki take an active role in our school masses. Each grade takes their turn at hosting a mass, lending their voices to the celebration. The grade hosting the mass, takes the lead role in the readings. The children in that grade also make up the choir for that mass and put a great deal of effort into practicing. The result is truly a mass for the children (by the children) and we welcome parents to attend.
