Annual Peace Poem Competition
Each year, our students participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Poetry Contest that is sponsored by the International Peace Poem Project. The Project is organized by volunteer teachers, writers, and artists on Maui. Our students create poems on what peace means to them, then submit their poems to the contest. The project organizers then select winners to read their poems at a special ceremony each May.
For the 13th year, Sacred Hearts School students proved that they are poets at heart. 18 students were awarded certificates in this year's competition. At the end of the ceremony, 8 students from Maui County were called to the stage for special recognition for the Golden Circle Awards. 4 of the 8 were our very own Sacred Hearts students; Kelvin Lam, Alexis Cowan, Brandon Barreno and Shawn Rabino. Way to go, Sacred Hearts keiki!!
